The 17-70mm F/2.8 Di III-A VC RXD (Model B070) is a large aperture everyday zoom lens for Sony E-mount APS-C and Fujifilm-X mirrorless cameras. This lens was created to achieve a broad zoom range and excellent image quality. With a focal length range of 17-70mm (a full-frame equivalent of 25.5-105mm), it’s the world's first F2.8 standard zoom lens with a 4.1x zoom ratio for APS-C cameras. The 17-70mm includes Tamron's proprietary VC (Vibration Compensation). Additionally, this lens focuses very close. It features an MOD (Minimum Object Distance) of 0.19m (7.5 in) at the wide-angle end and 0.39m (15.4 in) at the telephoto end. When shooting very close to the subject, the lens enables expressive imagery with highly blurred backgrounds, a feature unique to large aperture lenses. From portrait to landscape, and your everyday life, this lens captures all of the excitement and discoveries with the finest possible detail.

Features and Functions

VC for worry-free still photography and video capture

The 17-70mm F2.8 utilizes Tamron's highly regarded, proprietary VC image stabilization to maximize the inherent optical performance of the lens. It reduces the degradation of picture quality caused by minute camera shake that is likely to occur during handheld shooting at slow shutter speeds under low-light conditions indoors or at dusk. When shooting video, by leveraging AI technology, image stabilization performance improves compared to conventional models.

Superb AF keeps it sharp and quiet
The AF drive incorporates an RXD (Rapid eXtra-silent stepping Drive) stepping motor unit. RXD uses an actuator that is able to precisely control the rotational angle of the motor, allowing it to drive the focusing lens without passing through a reduction gear.The addition of a sensor that detects the position of the lens to a high degree of accuracy enables high-speed and precise AF, which allows you to maintain razorsharp focus when shooting continually moving subjects or filming video. The lens is also remarkably quiet, eliminating concerns of drive sounds being picked up while shooting video

Built with Mirrorless in Mind
Tamron’s new 17-70mm F2.8 zoom is compatible with many of the advanced features that are specific to mirrorless cameras. This includes:

ASL
Aspherical Lens – Aspherical lenses correct spherical aberrations (focus errors) in zoom lenses. They can replace several other optical elements without loss of quality, contributing to a more compact lens design.

VC (Vibration Compensation)
Vibration Compensation – Tamron-developed image stabilisation that compensates for unwanted camera movement for sharper images. Shutter speeds of up to 5 EV stops slower are possible with the VC image stabiliser.

FLR
Fluorine Coating – Fluorine Coating protects the front lens from contamination. It prevents oil and water droplets from sticking to the surface. Fingerprints and dirt are easier to remove.

IF
Internal Focusing (IF) System
Internal Focus – Internal focusing prevents the barrel from extending and rotating during focusing. The lens is easier to handle and is suitable for use with polarising or gradation filters.

LD (Low Dispersion)
Low Dispersion – LD elements have particularly low colour dispersion index. They reduce chromatic aberrations that appear as colour fringes on the contrast edges and reduce image sharpness.

XLD (Extra Low Dispersion) Glass
Extra-Low Dispersion – XLD elements have particularly low colour dispersion index. They reduce chromatic aberrations that appear as colour fringes on the contrast edges and reduce image sharpness.

MR
Moisture Resistant Construction – The lens is splash-resistant. All critical areas have special seals. Lenses with this feature are ideal for outdoor use in bad weather.

RXD (Rapid eXtra silent Drive)
Rapid Extra-Silent Drive – RXD autofocus is highly responsive, making it ideal for shooting stills and video of subjects in motion. A sensor constantly detects the current focus setting, allowing the continuous autofocus (AF-C) to precisely target the rotation angle required for focus at lightning speed.
